A large amount of metallic and non-metallic products in the market has utilized the technology of surface treatment to achieve aesthetic appearance and exceptional protective performance. This has prompted various manufacturers and businesses in the industry to recognize the importance of surface treatment. Characteristics of different types of surface treatment below will better help understand the application to it:
1. Electroless Plating
It is also known as chemical plating or autocatalytic plating, that produce metal coating on different items by autocatalytic chemical reduction of metal cations in liquid bath. The benefit of this method is that it creates even layer of metal regardless of the shape. Some of the more popular chemical surface treatment methods are thermal diffusion (TD) coating and quench polish quench (QPQ) that could prevent corrosion, strengthen, and remove impurities from metal surfaces.
2. Advanced Surface Treatment Technology
- Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) produces thin films and coatings by vaporizing solid materials in a vacuum and depositing onto the surface of the part. This method is harder and more corrosion-resistant than electroplating process.
- Ion Plating (IP) uses concurrent bombardment of the substate and deposits film by atomic-sized energetic particles. This method will have better coverage than PVD and more complete bonding.
3. Physical or Mechanical Process
Depending on the product application needs, some surface treatments are done differently, which includes physical or mechanical process. Such method includes buffing, polishing, painting etc.
