Surface Treatment for Printed Circuit Board (PCB)

A successful surface treatment plays a very important role in improving the functionality and appearance of a workpiece. In addition, it could also upgrade the level of weldability and electrical properties the workpiece.  Below are some suggestions on the suitable surface treatment methods for PCB:

1. Organic Coating

Organic coatings are corrosion and oxidation barrier between underlying metal and corrosive environment. It is a durable coating applied for decorative or specific technical properties. One of the main advantages of organic coating is that it is widely used and cost effective.

2. Electroless Nickel Plating (ENP)

ENP is deposited with a chemical reducing agent within solution chemistry that results in a uniform deposition on all surfaces. This ensures the PCB to have constant electrical properties despite being in a continuous current.

3. Immersion Silver Plating

This process is not as complicated as ENP or immersion gold, but it can still achieve good electrical properties. It is done by dipping workpiece into silver ions solution, which improve solderability, prevent oxidation, silver migration and corrosion.
